Dreaming Up a Vacation

>> Tuesday, August 24, 2010

This morning I have been sitting here daydreaming of a much needed vacation. I'm not quite sure exactly where I would like to go, but I want it to be somewhere different. In fact, I am kind of interested in looking at some Branson vacation packages. My nephew and his wife just returned from here and they have been talking about what an incredible time they had. I have never been there, so that would be kind of nice. I always like trying out new vacation spots.

Taking Mom Shopping

>> Saturday, August 21, 2010

I plan on taking my shopping for women's dresses on Monday. She has a wedding to go to in a couple of weeks and even though she has tons of dresses, she feels she needs a new one. I can understand that I suppose. I like having new things, especially when I'm going to something special or a big event. I just hope we find something on Monday cause if we don't then I won't have many more free days to take her again. I suppose I could get online tomorrow to see what I could find. You never know, we may just find something online and not have to go at all.

How to Save Money

>> Friday, August 20, 2010

In this day and age when crisis seems to strike anywhere, there's no better way to stay safe and secure than learning how to save money.

Experts agree that no matter how one looks at it, there will be always ways to save money if the person has the will do so. If you are one of those who are trying to come up with ways to save money in this unstable economy, it is best to start with developing a simple lifestyle. When you are able to do this, the rest will follow. But, if you are one of those who are not sure where to start, here are some eight simple ways to save money.

One step at a time

The first thing that you can do to save some money is by learning to manage your grocery or shopping sprees. Although buying groceries is a necessity, this doesn't mean that there's no opportunity for you to save. The best thing that you can do before going to a supermarket is to conduct an inventory on your supplies. This will help you determine how much more you have and can help you estimate the period of time that these supplies will last.

After knowing what are the things that you need, make a list to prioritize the items that are of utmost importance. The same thing can be applied when shopping for clothes and other accessories. To save money, the key is to limit expenses on the items that you really need and keep whatever cash you have at hand. Try not to buy something that just tickles your fancy and if possible, limit your trips to the supermarket or boutiques to veer away from the temptation of buying something.

As cheap as it may seem, getting as many coupons as you can help you save some money. These days, coupons are not only applicable to just groceries only. In fact, major establishments such as restaurants, cinemas and even boutiques accept and give out coupons to its customers to offer a discount. If you keep these coupons, you can get a little discount on establishments that you usually go to.

Learning to commute is another major saving for you. With the gas price hike, you can save lots of money if you take advantage of public transportation or even carpools. Aside from saving some money on gas, you can also save some since you wont have to pay for the car's maintenance and parking anymore.

Having enough time to audit your own bills would also help you. Before, people are used to just paying whatever amount the bill states. But since there can be major discrepancies in these, it is best if you audit your charges once in a while. Auditing is best for telephone bills since some charges are being repeated, thus, making you pay for calls you didn't actually make. Auditing can also be applied for your credit card bills since many companies add hidden charges.

Many people do not realize it but one of the best ways to save money is learning how to save energy. It is unfortunate that many people still don't realize that leaving an electric appliance plugged to the electricity outlet means that appliance still consumes almost 20 percent of the electricity it consumes while it is turned on. So, to save money as well as energy through electricity makes it a habit to unplug cables from their outlets when not in use.

It's Finally Friday

>> Friday, August 13, 2010

Everyone knows my favorite day of the week is Friday. Well actually I like the entire weekend, but Friday is when it all starts, so I guess I point it as my favorite. Today being Friday, I have nothing at all planned for the weekend. Normally I have something, but today I thought about what I would like to accomplish and nothing has yet to come to mind. So, with that being said, maybe I'll just enjoy a relaxing day at home, or I may decide to take off by myself and do some shopping. Nothing beats a good old day alone shopping. No one to have to answer too and no one to talk to but yourself. Sounds like a perfect day to me. So what's your plans for the weekend?

Great News from My Niece

My niece has finally decided she is going to do something about her education. I was truly worried after she graduated high school and went out to just get a regular job. The reason it worried me is because she has never really liked school and I figured if she didn't go to college right after high school, then the chances of her ever going were slim. Well she has informed me that she has decided on a medical assistant school. I am so proud of her, and I know she will be so thankful she decided to do something with her life once she is finished with schooling. I plan to help her all I can.

Picking Out a New Cell Phone

>> Wednesday, August 11, 2010

It has finally come time for my daughter to upgrade her cell phone. She is allowed to do this every year with the plan we have, and trust me, by the time a year rolls around, she is definitely needing a new phone. My daughter is not really rough with her cell phones, but she definitely does get a lot of use out of it. She uses it for the internet, texting, and of course calling everyone. She and I have come to an agreement before we go pick out this next cell phone. She is going to sit down with me and read some different cell phone reviews. I am so tired of having to replace her cell phone just a couple of months after getting it. This happens so much that the people in the cell phone store know us by our first name when we walk in the door. I believe by reviewing some different cellular phones, we can make a better decision on which one she should choose for her upgrade.

Don't Forget About Your Prescriptions

>> Saturday, August 7, 2010

I have a friend who recently had to be put on disability because of some major health problems. Little did she know she has to sign up for some type of insurance to help with her medications. She thought just regular medicare would take care of that. I had to explain to her that she would have to get part D for those. So, today we sat here trying to look over different Medicare part D plans to see which one would benefit her the most. She ended up deciding on one that is only going to cost her about $30 a month, so that's not bad at all, especially since her medicines normally cost around $300 monthly. If you're on social security disability, then don't forget about having insurance to cover your medicines.

Putting it Off Until Monday

Why is it you feel you have to weigh on the same day each week to see if you've lost any weight? I've never really understood that. Is it just something someone has come up with, or is there actually a logical explanation for it? I would be so happy if someone could tell me, and then I wouldn't have to pass my scales every morning wanting to hop on them. Crazy, I know, but I had much rather weigh each and everyday because it helps me to meet my goals.

Thinking of Winter

>> Wednesday, August 4, 2010

I know it's a little early in the year to already be thinking about winter, especially when it's a hundred degrees outside. But this morning I noticed there is a sale on hot tub covers, and we definitely will be needing one soon. I am thinking about going ahead and placing and order just to get it out of the way, and this way I won't have to worry about it when winter time gets here. Besides that, it may twice the price then.
