Getting the Kids Ready to go Back to School

Getting the kids ready to go back to school can be a challenge. Our holiday break this year went from Dec. 20th to Jan 3rd, so it was a long time for the kids to be out. It almost seemed like a miniature Summer vacation for them. We also had family in town until Jan 2nd, so that created some difficulties as well.

The biggest difficulty in getting them ready for school again was trying to get them back on a sane sleep schedule. Staying up late and sleeping late with the cousins for almost two weeks completely changed their sleep-cycle. So, with the exception of New Years Eve, we put the kids to bed by 10PM starting on Dec. 29th. This worked out well, with the kids getting up by 9AM at the latest every day.

The other challenge I knew we would have was getting used to not having family visitors around. Everything felt very safe with all those people there; we live in a good neighborhood, but having a ton of family around can make you let your guard down. So we practiced setting our home security system from http://www.allhomesecurity.com/ again starting on Jan. 1st, and that seems to have worked out well. Other than that, we just needed to get over missing them.

All-in-all, getting the kids ready to go back to school was very easy this year, especially compared to last. I look forward to doing it all again next year.
