Many people experience sleepless nights in some point of their lives, but those who battles with sleepless nights on a regular or consistent basis are suffering from severe insomnia. Severe insomnia is a debilitating sleep disorder. This is because it causes a number of risks factors including your work, relationship, health and even your safety. It affects your ability to make logical decisions and decreases your mental functions. An individual dealing with insomnia for about four weeks is said to be suffering from severe insomnia and needs to seek medical attention.
Severe insomnia can be brought on by a number of situations but the causes may be the same with any type of insomnia. They may be more intense and most require medical attention for treatment. Common factor affecting sleep is prolonged stress. Stress due to financial turmoil, relationship problems and workplace can affect your ability to sleep soundly at night. Severe insomnia often requires medical attention to treat the underlying cause. It is a fact that insomnia is a symptom of another underlying condition and you need to pinpoint it for treatment. You may try natural cures such as warm bath and massage to induce sleep as well as a glass of warm milk before bedtime. Avoiding excess intake of alcohol and caffeinated drinks may also improve your sleeping condition. There are also relaxation techniques such as yoga, breathing exercises and meditation that may calm your mind and body to induce sleep. However, if these do not help you relieve your insomnia symptoms seek medical advice for further treatment or prescription drugs that will help you sleep well at night.
